Abstract
Objective :
@EN To assess the value of single maternal serum progesterone measurement in the immediate diagnosis of normal intrauterine pregnancy and abnormal pregnancy.
@ES Material :
@EN 109 patients, less than 8 weeks of gestation by LMP and TV-USG from Sep. 1992 to Aug. 1994 in prospective study
@ES Method:
@EN Single serum progesterone measurement by radioimmunoassay kit
@ES Result : 1) Patients were devided into two groups : normal intrauterine pregnancy group(n=79) and abnormal pregnancy group(n=30)
2) There were no significant difference between normal intrauterine pregnancy and abnormal pregnancy group in maternal age, estimated gestational age, gravidity, previous obsterical history.
3) Serum progesterone level in normal intrauterine pregnancy group, median was 24 ng/mL, mean¡¾S.D was 34.4¡¾36.6 ng/mL and range was from 12.6 to 200 ng/mL.
4) Serum progesterone level in abnormal pregnancy group, median, 6.2ng/mL, and mean¡¾S.D. 11.1¡¾10.8ng/mL and range was from 0 to 44.6ng/mL.
5) The receiver operator characteristic curve demonstrated that the cutoff value differentiating from normal intrauterine pregnancy was 19ng/mL, and at this point sensitivity and specificity were 77% and 80%, respectively. Positive & negative
predictive value were 59% and 90%, respectively
@ES Conclusion :
@EN A single serum progesterone measurement taken in early pregnancy is valuable marker in the predictor of normal intrauterine or abnormal pregnancy and the cutoff value was 19 ng/mL.
